چکیده

There are two key areas related to user interfaces: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Adaptation. Adaptation builds user interfaces adapted to user characteristics and preferences, but it does not take into account the basic principles associated with human interaction. HCI, takes into account said principles, but does not address the varying preferences and user characteristics. The basic premise of this research is that the integration of HCI with Adaptation can yield better user interfaces, since both areas can complement each other. This paper analyzes and compares several research works on HCI and Adaptation. Based on this analysis, this paper proposes a conceptual integration model of HCI and Adaptation.

An MDE-SOA Approach to Support Plastic User Interfaces in Ambient Spaces

User interface (UI) plasticity denotes UI adaptation to the context of use (user, platform, physical and social environment) while preserving usability. Our approach to this problem is to bring together MDE (Model Driven Engineering) and SOA (Service Oriented Approach) within a unified framework that covers both the development stage and the runtime phase of plastic UI’s. In particular, an inte...

Usability evaluation of the user interface in electronic prescribing systems of Iran Health Insurance Organization and Social Security Organization

Introduction: The e-prescribing system is one of the basic technologies in the health system structure which was developed with the aim of properly managing healthcare resources and services, preventing common manual prescribing errors, and increasing patient safety. Given that the user interface of e-prescribing system is considered as the main factor of user acceptance, the purpose of the pre...

Integrating Adaptation and HCI Concepts to Support Usability in User Interfaces - A Rule-based Approach

A common problem in information systems development is to provide support for adaptation, to automatically adapt their services to different users and contexts. User Interfaces (UI) are required to adapt to those contexts and to satisfy specific criteria and standards to guarantee usability. Several methods have been created to ensure a degree of usability in UI. However, these methods focus ma...

Evaluating user interface adaptations at runtime by simulating user interaction

Adaptive user interfaces are commonly used for providing different layouts and information according to the current context-of-use. However, the complexity and heterogeneity of potential users, platforms and environments lead to a combinatorial explosion of variants, making it almost impossible to foresee all potential results of adaptations at design time. In this paper we present our work on ...
